The Picea Abies, or Norway Spruce is a species of spruce native to most all areas of Europe except for the southern region. This evergreen prefers to grow in colder climates and is very closely related to the Picea Obovate, or Siberian Spruce. Some buyers prefer to use the Norway spruce tree for sale that we offer as an ornamental Christmas tree. A different type of Christmas tree than the usual standard that you see throughout the United States, the Norway Spruce trees generally tower above the other Christmas tree varieties. In fact, in many places across the world, the Norway Spruce tree is the Christmas tree of ‘choice’ for the area including London, Edinburgh, throughout cities in Norway, and even in our country’s capital.
Norway spruce trees are loved for their fast-growing hardiness, and their longevity. The tree has even been used to create “spruce beer” which was once a medicinal compound that was used to prevent and cure scurvy. In fact, the Norway spruce tree’s shoot tips are still commonly used in traditional medicines (in teas or baths) for treatment of various disorders.
Norway spruce for sale feature elongated cones that have a beautiful form of overlapping scales. Each scale on the cone is perfectly sized going from the bottom to top, and it creates a point at the end.
